A storm is brewing in Uganda over a controversial new beauty contest known as Miss Curvy, which targets plus size women. The pageant was announced recently by the Minister for Tourism, Godfrey Kiwanda, who wants to use the women as products to increase tourism to the country. Women’s rights organisations are outraged by the launch of the Miss Curvy pageant. The pageant also got some reaction from men’s pro-feminist groups who added their voices to condemn it. These included Hassan Sekajoolo, who co-ordinates MenEngage Uganda, as you will hear in this audio package by MenEngage Africa’s Communications Co-Ordinator, Khopotso Bodibe.
