Conducting awareness on the Prohibition of FGM Act of 2011 and to launch the Anti-FGM Youth Network in Mt Elgon, Kenya.

Kenya MenEngage Alliance (KEMEA) Programme Officer, Elias Muindi, joined the Kenya Anti-FGM Board and Adventure Youth Group (AYG) from Mt Elgon, Bungoma County to participate in a charity race, ‘End FGM Race’ on 25th November 2018, to mark the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children.

The main objective of the race was to create comprehensive awareness about female genital mutilation (FGM), early marriage and its negative impacts on girls’ and women’s development, to spark community dialogue and commitment to end FGM in Mt. Elgon, to amplify the voices of reformed cutters (circumcisers) in Bungoma County to champion against female genital mutilation, conduct awareness on the Prohibition of FGM Act of 2011 and to launch the Anti-FGM Youth Network in Mt Elgon.

Kenya MenEngage Alliance Programme Officer, Elias Muindi, joined the CEO of The Kenya Anti-FGM Board, Bernadette Loloju, Miss Tourism Kenya, Sarah Pkyach, and other FGM Activists in a 5km walk. He noted that “this is an opportunity to highlight the importance of engaging men and boys in ending FGM.”

The Anti-FGM Board Chief Executive Officer said that the marathon was a good opportunity to sensitise the community on the Prohibition of FGM Act of 2011.

Miss Tourism Kenya encouraged parents to empower women and girls to attain sustainable development. The function ended with the awarding of certificates to the Marathon winners.
