Sonke Gender Justice (Sonke), through the generous funding from the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) has undertaken a “Linking policy and implementation for gender equality in Malawi, Namibia and Zimbabwe” through the MenEngage Africa country networks. This three-year project will ultimately contribute to an increase in gender equality and a reduction in gender-based violence (GBV) in Southern Africa with Sonke leading the project with support from three local MenEngage country networks in Zimbabwe, Namibia and Malawi.
The three country secretariats convened in Lilongwe, Malawi, in early May 2022 for a face-to-face inception meeting to kickstart the project’s implementation. Members were able to discuss strategies to increase their capacities in order to effectively coordinate, implement, improve, and scale up their gender-transforming approaches to GBV prevention and gender-equal parenting, including more accountability to women’s rights principles.
