On November 10, 11 and 12, 2020, MenEngage Togo member organisations and some partners gathered in Lomé, at the Hotel Saint Paulos, to follow and participate in the launch activities of the MenEngage Alliance Ubuntu Symposium. A total of 15 participants took part and followed with interest the debates, exchanges and presentations of the Symposium, under the theme, “Ubuntu – I am because you are”.
As well as following the Symposium activities online, participants who gathered together organised discussion sessions on some of the Symposium’s themes. The discussions and plenary sessions covered the following themes during the three days:
- The needs of young people: How to strengthen the youth leadership of MenEngage Togo.
- Working with traditional and religious leaders as an important strategy for transforming gender norms.
- Working with the media: A necessary gateway to youth and mass today.
- Gender transformation: How to do it?
- Intersectionality: What does this word contain for gender-transformative work?
Participants greatly appreciated the opportunity provided by the Symposium to engage and to interrogate issues, the quality of debates and the programme. Other local meetings will be organised in line with ongoing Symposium programme to continue following the Symposium.

MENENGAGE TOGO ACTIVEMENT ENGAGE DANS LE SYMPOSIUM UBUNTU 2020 DE MENENGAGE ALLIANCE !
Le réseau MenEngage Togo a organisé trois jours de participation virtuelle au Symposium Unbuntu.
En dates du 10, 11 et 12 Novembre 2020, les organisations membres et quelques partenaires se sont retrouvés à Lomé, à l’Hôtel Saint Paulos, pour suivre et participer aux activités de lancement de ce Symposium. Au total 15 participants ont pris part à ces rassemblements et ont suivi avec intérêt les débats intéressants, les échanges et exposés du symposium « Je suis parce que tu es ».
En plus des activités prévues par le comité d’organisation du Symposium, les participants ont organisé des séances de discussions sur certains thèmes du Symposium. Les échanges et plénières ont porté sur les thèmes suivants durant les 3 jours :
- Les besoins des jeunes : comment renforcer le leadership de la jeunesse de MenEngage Togo.
- Le travail avec les leaders traditionnels et religieux comme une stratégie importante de transformation des normes de genre.
- Le travail avec les médias : une porte d’entrée nécessaire aujourd’hui vers la jeunesse et la masse.
- La transformation genre : comment s’y prendre ?
- L’intersectionalité : que renferme ce mot pour le travail transformateur de genre ?
Les participants ont vivement apprécié l’opportunité offerte par le Symposium de s’engager et d’interroger les problèmes, la qualité des débats et le programme. D’autres rencontres locales seront organisées conformément au programme en cours du Symposium pour continuer à suivre le Symposium.
