Each year the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women meets at UN headquarters in New York to review progress against commitments made in international agreements and national law to advance women’s rights. This year the 57th CSW focuses on the prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls. Sonke Gender Justice will participate at the CSW in a number of different roles.

Bafana Khumalo and Itumeleng Komanyane will serve as representatives of the South African government delegation led by the Minister of Women, Children and People with Disability, Lulu Xingwana. Dean Peacock, Nomonde Nyembe and Cherith Sanger will participate in civil society activities and all will be involved in presenting at over a dozen official panel events and side events over the course of the 10 days. Sonke will also release a report assessing the progress made by the South African government against commitments made to engage men and boys in ending gender based violence.
