Improving Women’s Security in Marriage in the DRC

MenEngage DRC has been working in partnership with the Congo Men’s Network in order to sensitise men about how to better understand their roles; within the family structure and within society. The rationale for these interventions arose from the recognition that, as husbands and as fathers, most men in the DRC were still caught up in very patriarchal and rather harmful ideas about family, marriage and fatherhood. MenEngage DRC therefore committed to setting in motion a number of interventions that involved reaching out to and interacting with men themselves, so as to help them to better understand the harm they are causing by often just following old-fashioned and very traditional notions of their roles in the family and in society.
